ALS Walk 13 September, 2014, Oregon and SW Washington Chapter

It has been nearly a year since I have updated this blog. Just so many things happening at once that I have not been able to devote time to the work that I enjoy doing!

It's that time of year again! The annual Walk for ALS for the Oregon and SW Washington Chapter will be held on the State Capitol grounds on September 13, 2014.

Participants may check in at 11am and the walk begins at 12pm. Details can be found here.

I donate to Laurie's Lions. My good friend Linda Batty shared with me the story of her sister Laurie's fight against ALS. Linda continues to remain committed to fundraising toward ALS research and helping families and individuals who suffer from ALS. Linda's interview, Laurie's story and Linda's goals can be found here.

While I have chosen to donate to Laurie's Lions, one may contribute to any other team or the ALS organization itself. A link for donations can be found here. Your donations go toward funding research for ALS and also towards the local ALS chapter to provide immediate assistance to those suffering from ALS. While there have been strides toward a better understanding of the condition, a cure has remained elusive. People lose function suddenly or gradually, depending on the location in which it manifests. While those affected by ALS struggle to absorb the inevitability of the condition, their families often suffer a great deal. Finances are always impacted, and help is always welcome, as caregivers cannot manage alone. Donations will go toward enabling continued free use of essential devices such as walkers, wheelchairs, speech devices ventilators, and other assistive devices which go toward maintaining some quality of life for as long as possible.
